The History of the Flashlight
So how did the idea come about to create a portable light which could be useful in such a wide variety of situations from natural disasters to amusing children at a sleepover in the back-yard? The flashlight was originally invented in 1898, more than a century ago. The purpose of the flashlight was to create a portable light that provided convenience for workers. Even though there has been changes made to how the flashlight works there are no major significant changes in the principal construction which creates a portable beam of light. The evolution was mostly influenced by changes in the main components including housing materials, power source, and its light source. From traditional flashlights to newly developed LED technology – and plastic to metal and weatherproof flashlight housing – there have been many changes in the development of flashlights, as the components remain tied to the original concepts of the light. You could say the idea has been approved upon, like many other ideas, but has not been entirely changed as a concept rechargeable flashlight B08JQFD1H6.
In more Recent Light Bulb History which contributed to the creation of flashlights as we know them today we can refer to Thomas Edison. Thomas Edison became a part of history with his invention of the incandescent light bulb in 1879. It changed and revolutionized our outlook on life. It allowed things such as candles and kerosene lamps to be replaced. In 1906, the carbon filament was later replaced with a brighter and more durable tungsten wire filament. This eventually led to the smaller bulb that is used in the flashlight.
The portable battery is an integral part. French inventor George Leclanche created the first prototype wet cell in 1866. By 1888, his invention was enhanced by Dr. Carl Gassner who was a well known German scientist. He created the first portable battery by enclosing the chemicals inside of a zinc container. This battery is the basis of what we know as an integral part of the flashlight that we have come to use on a regular basis in our homes, our workplaces and to rescue us from emergency situations. The world’s first flashlight was created in 1898 by a Russian by the name of Conrad Hubert also known as Akiba Horowitz. He moved to the United States in 1891 in hopes of bettering himself and expanding his studies. Hubert noticed the potential that a portable lighting tool held. Hubert worked closely with David Misell in 1897, which eventually created the world’s first ever tubular flashlight. Their joint efforts were rewarded in 1898 when several of their flashlight ideas where patented under Conrad Hubert’s company. Now, when shopping for a flashlight we have endless choices from LED Lights to alternate powered lights by shaking, cranking or turning. Flashlights have evolved greatly since their first development, offering choice that customers like to have.
