Send SMS Using a Spreadsheet
How SMS from Excel works
The best thing about combining text messaging functionality with the phone numbers held on Excel worksheets is that users will no longer need to leave Excel when text messaging. All that is needed to link your SMS interface with Excel is a simple add-in. This is designed to interface with the Excel menu system, so you can be up and running in a few clicks. Once the add-in is in place, to get started you just need to select your recipients, type in the message, proofread it and then send it. Of course if you need to send an individual message this also possible, you just select the receiver, write the message and send. Depending on the SMS to Excel add-in you use, you should be able to create and store pre-defined message templates, helping to speed-up the process even further. Ideally it will also support 2-way messaging and so allow the receiver to reply to your text message, when necessary.
Who should use SMS from Excel
Professionals that heavily rely on spreadsheet applications, who also need to communication with their customers regularly will probably be the first to recognise the benefits of sending text messages from Excel. For example, an accountant could send out text message alerts to remind clients to submit their quarterly VAT return. A bookkeeper could send out payment reminder to customers that haven’t paid their bill yet. And with 2-way messaging, the receiver in either scenario could reply to let the account or bookkeeper know that they’ve made the payment.
